Canny Curries is a family recipe book designed and printed in 2021 that delves into my family’s unique blend of Bengali and Geordie heritage. The book retraces the extraordinary journey my grandparents took with their five children in 1969, traveling from Newcastle to Bangladesh in a converted Ford Transit van. The route spanned France, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, West Pakistan, and India before reaching East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
Told through cherished memories and stories, this project holds immense personal significance in documenting my family’s history. The fusion of two cultures has profoundly shaped my mother’s upbringing and, in turn, mine. Inspired by recipes passed down from my grandfather to my mother, I designed Canny Curries as my final project at Ravensbourne. This is an on going project and I hope to publish Canny Curries in 2026.
